In-stock builds are the configurations listed on our browse servers page across Chicago, Los Angeles and Ashburn. You pick the processor family and location, adjust the options on the order form, and the machine is already sitting in a rack waiting for you.
Custom builds cover everything else. Different CPU generations, more RAM, custom storage layouts, RAID setups and bigger bandwidth tiers are all available on request, and our team sends back a configuration and pricing proposal within 1 business day of your quote request.
How to get the fast one
If you’re on a deadline, start with the in-stock list and bend your requirements a little before you go custom. A server that’s 90% of what you wanted, running tomorrow, usually beats the perfect one next week. You can always move to a custom box later, once the launch is behind you.
A few things that keep an order moving:
- Pick a location that has stock. Availability differs by data center; today one Ashburn configuration shows “Sold out — get a quote” while the same family is orderable in Chicago and Los Angeles.
- Decide on the OS up front. Reinstalling later costs you more time than choosing now.
- Put your timeline on the quote form. It asks when you need the server, so say it plainly.
What happens after it’s online
You get root or administrator access to the operating system, hypervisor or control panel you picked, plus IPMI on a private management network for when the OS won’t boot. From then on, our Essential SLA covers 99.5% network availability, a 30-minute support ticket response and 2-hour hardware replacement.

A week or less is the commitment for custom builds. If what you need is close to an in-stock configuration, start from that one and ask for the change. Tell us your deadline on the quote form and we’ll say which route gets you there first.
The same-or-next-day timeline applies to in-stock builds, and stock is listed per location. Check the browse servers page for the data center you want; if it shows sold out, request a quote instead.
