WooCommerce Hosting on a Dedicated Server

Cart, checkout and My Account never come from a page cache. Every one of those requests runs PHP and hits MySQL, which is why stores fall over on shared hosting the moment a promotion lands. A GigeNET dedicated server gives your WooCommerce store an Intel Xeon machine to itself in Chicago, Ashburn or Los Angeles. Entry builds start at $126/mo in Chicago and Los Angeles, with $0 setup and no contract. DDoS protection and 1 TB of R1Soft backups are included, and our engineers can manage the server and OS 24/7 while your team runs the store.

Why a store needs its own server

A blog can hide behind a page cache. A store can't, because the pages that make money are the ones that have to be generated fresh for each shopper. Dedicated hardware is the straightforward fix.

Checkout gets the whole CPU

Add to cart, apply coupon, calculate shipping, place order: each step is an uncached PHP request plus several database queries. On a dedicated server those requests share Intel Xeon cores with nothing but your own store.

MySQL stops being the bottleneck

WooCommerce order and product lookups are database-heavy, and shared hosting throttles database connections first. With dedicated RAM you can size the InnoDB buffer pool to hold your whole catalog in memory.

No visit tier to outgrow

Managed WooCommerce plans bill by monthly visits and slow you down or bill overages past the tier. A dedicated server has no visit cap. The only limit is the hardware, and we can add more of it.

DDoS protection during your biggest sale

4 Gbps of DDoS protection is on every server at $0. Stores that expect heavier attacks can step up to 6, 8 or 10 Gbps at $155, $330 or $525 a month, or ask about ProxyShield Advanced.

Orders backed up automatically

R1Soft automated backups with 1 TB of space are included on every dedicated order. Your order history is the business; it shouldn't live on one disk.

Server and OS management, 24/7

Enterprise Server Management is $99/mo ($79/mo with a cPanel license) and includes Advanced Monitoring. Our engineers patch and watch the server; your developer owns WooCommerce, plugins and the theme.

The mechanics

What actually breaks when a WooCommerce store gets busy

Store owners usually blame the theme or a plugin when checkout slows down. Sometimes that’s right. More often the store has outgrown the hosting, and the symptoms show up in a predictable order.

  • Cache hit rate collapses. Browsing is cached, so it looks fine. Then a sale drives shoppers into carts, and carts are per-person. Your cache hit rate drops, PHP workers fill up, and the queue starts.
  • PHP workers max out. Shared and small VPS plans cap concurrent PHP processes. When every worker is busy calculating shipping, new shoppers wait or get a 503. If you’ve seen a 504 gateway timeout during a promotion, this is usually why.
  • MySQL falls behind. Order writes, stock decrements, session rows and product queries compete for the same throttled database. Checkout is the step that fails, which is the worst place for it.
  • Something external notices. Payment gateways and shipping APIs time out when your server is slow to respond, and the shopper sees a failed payment that was really a slow server.

If your store is also a content site with logged-in members, the same logic applies and the WordPress dedicated server page covers the non-store side.

Managed or self-managed

What we manage, and what stays with your team

We manage the server and the operating system. You, or whoever builds your store, manage WooCommerce. That line matters, so here it is in detail.

On compliance: we don’t claim PCI compliance on your behalf, and you should be suspicious of any host that does. What we give you is a single-tenant server in a SOC 2 Type II data center, which is the foundation your payment provider and assessor will ask about first. The management plan also moves the SLA: network credits from 99.95% instead of 99.5%, hardware replacement credits after 1 hour instead of 2, support response credits after 15 minutes instead of 30. See managed servers for the plan, and cPanel dedicated servers if you want a control panel on top.

WooCommerce dedicated server FAQ

Other options: WordPress dedicated server · Managed servers · cPanel dedicated servers · DDoS protection

Will a dedicated server make my WooCommerce store faster?

For the pages that matter, yes. Cached product pages are fast almost anywhere. Cart, checkout and account pages depend on CPU and database speed, and those are exactly what you stop sharing on a dedicated server. A badly built theme or a slow plugin will still be slow on any hardware, which is why your developer still matters.

Do you set up or optimize WooCommerce for me?

Not as part of a standard plan. Our engineers manage the server and operating system; your team runs WooCommerce, the theme and the plugins. If you want us to look at server-side tuning for your store, ask in the quote form and we’ll tell you what we can do and quote it.

Is a dedicated server overkill for a small store?

If you take a handful of orders a day and never run promotions, a VPS is probably enough and we’ll say so. The moment you run sales, carry a big catalog, or sell to logged-in customers, the uncached share of your traffic grows and a $126/mo server pays for itself the first time checkout doesn’t fall over.

Can I run several stores on one server?

Yes. You can run several WooCommerce stores, or a store plus staging and a few brochure sites, on one machine. Add cPanel Premier Metal ($49.50/mo for 100 accounts) if you want each store in its own account.

What happens if the hardware fails?

Hardware replacement is covered by the SLA, with credits after 2 hours (1 hour with a management plan). Every order includes R1Soft automated backups with 1 TB of space, so your orders and catalog can be restored onto replacement hardware.

How do I move my store to GigeNET?

Coming from a cPanel host? The cPanel-to-cPanel migration is free. From anything else, tell us the current setup and we’ll quote the move. Either way, plan the cutover for a quiet hour and keep the old server up until orders are flowing on the new one.
