S3-compatible object storage next to your servers

We run S3-compatible object storage in our Ashburn, Chicago and Los Angeles data centers. Your dedicated servers or VPS in the same building connect to it, and your existing S3 tools and backup software point at it with a new endpoint and keys. Reads inside your plan cost nothing extra. Need drives no other customer uses? We'll build you a dedicated storage server.

What you get

Object storage you can point your S3 tools at, in the same building as your servers.

Your own S3 endpoint

Buckets, access keys, versioning and lifecycle rules, with your buckets and keys kept separate from every other customer's. The AWS CLI, the SDKs, rclone and most backup software work once you change the endpoint and keys.

Next to your servers

Your dedicated servers or VPS in the same data center reach the storage over our network. Want drives no other customer uses? We'll build a dedicated storage server or cluster for you.

Immutable backups

S3 Object Lock keeps a backup from being changed or deleted until its retention ends, so ransomware or a bad script can't wipe it. Backup software that writes to S3-compatible storage with immutability, Veeam included, can use it as a target.

No per-GB read fees inside your plan

Public clouds bill for data you read back out: Amazon S3 lists $0.09 per GB for the first 10 TB a month sent to the internet from US East (AWS price list, checked October 15, 2026). With us, reads inside your plan cost nothing extra. Bandwidth works like our dedicated servers: a monthly allowance or an unmetered port.

Failed drives are our problem

The cluster spreads your data across drives and servers, so one failed drive doesn't lose it. Our engineers watch the drives and replace failed hardware.

Shared or your own

Most customers use space on our shared cluster, and we run it. If you need a storage server only you use, we'll build one. Run it yourself with full root access, or have our engineers manage it.

Is it a fit

When object storage next to your servers makes sense

It pays off when you store a lot and read it back often: a backup you restore from, a media library your site serves, or a dataset your jobs pull every week.

  • Tens of terabytes or more: the larger the store, the further a monthly price beats per-gigabyte billing.
  • Frequent reads: restores, media delivery and analytics jobs don’t run up a transfer bill inside your bandwidth plan.
  • Your servers are here, or will be: storage in the same building as your dedicated servers or VPS keeps reads close.
  • US data in a building you can name: Ashburn, Chicago or Los Angeles.
  • AI and machine learning data: training sets, checkpoints and model weights get read many times. See AI data storage.
  • A backup target outside your production cloud: a second provider, with object lock on, is what ransomware can’t reach.

Storing less than 10 TB? Shared storage starts at 10 TB, so a storage server or an extra drive on your dedicated server is usually the simpler fit. Ask and we’ll point you to the right one. Need file or block storage instead? See our NFS, iSCSI and Ceph block storage. Want backups handled end to end instead? See our managed Veeam backups.

How it's built

How we build it

  • Software: open-source storage software with an S3 API in front, run, patched and monitored by our engineers. If your team needs Ceph, we’ll build your storage on Ceph. We don’t build new clusters on MinIO’s community edition, which is no longer maintained.
  • Hardware: dense storage servers with enterprise hard drives.
  • Protection: your data is spread across drives and servers, so one failed drive doesn’t lose it.
  • Shared or dedicated: space on our shared cluster by default, or a storage server or cluster built only for you.
  • Network: your servers in the same data center reach the storage over our network. Public bandwidth works like our dedicated server plans.
  • Regions: Ashburn (Equinix DC3), Chicago (our Arlington Heights facility) or Los Angeles.

What a quote looks like

Say you keep 80 TB of backups and media in Chicago and read about 20 TB of it back each month to two dedicated servers in the same building.

  • Storage: 80 TB on our shared cluster, with room to grow.
  • Servers: your two dedicated servers, ones you already have with us or new ones.
  • Bandwidth: reads inside your plan cost nothing extra. Past a metered allowance it’s $0.02 per GB.

You get one monthly price for all of it. For comparison, sending 20 TB a month from Amazon S3 to servers outside AWS costs about $1,800 at its list price (US East, checked October 15, 2026), before you pay to store anything.

    What is S3-compatible storage?

Object storage that speaks the Amazon S3 API. Tools written for S3, like the AWS CLI, the AWS SDKs, rclone and most backup software, work with it once you change the endpoint and access keys.

    How much does it cost?

Shared storage starts at 10 TB, and it’s quoted per deployment, because the price depends on how much you store, how much you read back each month, the region and whether you want shared storage or a server of your own. Fill in the quote form and we’ll price it.

    Is the storage shared?

The storage cluster is shared, and your buckets and access keys are yours alone. The servers that read it are your own dedicated servers or VPS. If you need drives no other customer uses, we’ll build a dedicated storage server or cluster.

Can I use it for Veeam or other immutable backups?

Yes. We turn on S3 Object Lock, so backups can’t be changed or deleted before their retention ends. Veeam and other backup tools that support S3-compatible storage with immutability can write to it. If you’d rather we run the backups, see our managed Veeam backups. Setup notes for Veeam are on our immutable backup storage page.

Do you charge for data I read back?

Reads inside your plan cost nothing extra. Bandwidth works like our dedicated servers: each plan includes a monthly allowance, or you can choose an unmetered port. Past a metered allowance it’s $0.02 per GB.

What software runs it? Is it MinIO?

Open-source storage software that our engineers run and monitor, with an S3 API in front. If you need Ceph, we’ll build your storage on Ceph. We don’t build new clusters on MinIO’s community edition, which is no longer maintained.

    Where is my data stored?

In the region you pick: Ashburn, Virginia (Equinix DC3), Chicago (our Arlington Heights facility) or Los Angeles. It stays there.

Can you help us move off Amazon S3 or another provider?

We help with the move. On larger deployments it’s often included; smaller jobs are quoted up front.

    Can I run it myself?

Yes, on a storage server or cluster built only for you. You get full root access to run Ceph or other object storage software yourself, or our engineers can manage it.
