GigeNET vs InterServer (2026): SLA, support, DDoS and price

InterServer and GigeNET sell dedicated servers at similar entry prices: InterServer’s cheapest listed server was $130 a month when we checked, and ours is $126. So the choice comes down to what you need from the server and what each host promises when something fails. On that second point the two companies’ own documents are very different.

Everything about InterServer below comes from its own website, checked on October 13, 2026, and we’ve quoted its wording where it matters. We’re GigeNET, so weigh our side with that in mind. Every claim about us links to a page you can read yourself.

Hardware at the entry price

InterServer’s $130 server is a solid box: a four-core Xeon E3-1240 v6 with 64 GB of ECC RAM, two 24 TB SATA drives and a 1 Gbps unmetered port, in Los Angeles. If raw storage per dollar is the only thing you’re buying, that’s a good listing.

Our $126 server is a Xeon E3-1230 v1 with up to 32 GB of RAM and 30 TB of bandwidth. For an unmetered port, our $159 Xeon D-1541 special gives you 64 GB of RAM, a 1 TB SSD and 1 Gbps unmetered in Ashburn, Chicago or Los Angeles. Big drives are cheap on our storage servers too: a 14 TB enterprise drive is $79 a month. And when 1 Gbps isn’t enough, our 10 Gbps unmetered servers start at $499 a month.

What happens on a bad day

This is where the two hosts really differ.

Credits. InterServer’s SLA guarantees 99.9% network availability. If it misses, “credits will be made available to each client on a case by case basis, not to exceed 50% of their base monthly fee.” You open a ticket within seven days, and the outage “must be confirmed by our own monitoring services.”

Our SLA lists the credits in advance. On a standard server, availability under 99.5% earns 5% of the monthly fee, and the credit steps up through 10%, 25% and 50% to the full fee below 85%. Managed servers are credited from below 99.95%. You file within ten business days and the schedule decides the amount. Nobody decides case by case.

Hardware. InterServer’s SLA lists “hardware failures” among its exceptions and recommends buying an extra drive or server for backups. Ours guarantees replacement of failed components within 2 hours, or 1 hour on a managed plan, and a late replacement earns its own credit.

Support. InterServer’s terms say its goal is to respond to support inquiries within 1 to 3 hours, “however no guarantee” is made. Our SLA guarantees a response to a written ticket within 30 minutes, or 15 on a managed plan, with credits if we’re late. People answer our tickets and phone calls 24/7.

Backups. InterServer’s SLA says “all backups are the responsibility of the customer.” New GigeNET orders include R1Soft backups with 1 TB of space.

For a hobby project none of this may matter. For a server that bills customers, one slow hardware swap usually costs more than a year of any price difference.

DDoS protection

Both hosts include DDoS protection. Ours is spelled out on the order form: 4 Gbps is included on every dedicated server, with 6 Gbps for $155 a month, 8 Gbps for $330 and 10 Gbps for $525. Beyond that, ProxyShield Advanced is quoted to fit. Whichever host you choose, ask what happens when an attack is bigger than the included protection.

Managed or self-managed

If you’d rather not run the OS yourself, our Enterprise Server Management is $99 a month per server, or $79 on a server with a cPanel license. It covers OS patching, 24/7 monitoring and troubleshooting, and it moves the server onto our faster SLA tier.

Switching to GigeNET

  • In-stock servers go online the same day or the next day. Custom builds take a week or less.
  • cPanel accounts migrate from your old host for free.
  • New orders include R1Soft backups with 1 TB of space.
  • IPMI sits on a private management network by default.
  • There’s no setup fee and no contract.

Check InterServer’s cancellation terms before renewal, run both servers side by side for a few days, and move DNS once the new box has carried real traffic.

So which one?

If you only need cheap disk for a side project, any budget listing will do. If the server earns money, pick the host whose SLA tells you exactly what you get when something breaks. Tell us what you’re running and we’ll quote a server sized to it, or browse our dedicated servers.
