Three folders were behind their upstream on 2026-09-28: FreeBSD (last sync 10 Sep 2026), openSUSE (last sync 7 Sep 2026), Ceph (last sync 25 Sep 2026). Until they catch up, pull the newest releases from the project’s own download site. The Whonix, XCP-ng and Quillux folders haven’t been updated since 2023 or earlier, so we’ve left them off this list. Don’t point anything at them.

How to use it

Most folders follow the same layout as the project's own master server. Swap the hostname and base path, keep everything after it, and you're done.

Point your package manager here

Put the matching folder in your sources list or repo file. Debian packages live under https://mirrors.gigenet.com/debian/, AlmaLinux under https://mirrors.gigenet.com/almalinux/, Arch under https://mirrors.gigenet.com/archlinux/. apt, dnf and pacman check package signatures on their own, so a mirror can't hand you a tampered package without the check failing.

Grab install images

ISO and disk images sit in each project's release folders. Download over HTTPS, then check the file against the SHA256 sums and signatures the project publishes. No mirror should be your only source of trust. That includes ours.

Check the sync time first

The index shows when each project last synced. If a folder is more than a day or two behind, use upstream or another mirror until it catches up, and tell us at [email protected] so we can look at it.

Why we do it

Why GigeNET hosts a mirror

We’ve sold hosting since 1998, and our own order forms offer AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, Debian, Ubuntu and FreeBSD. Our business runs on these projects. Mirroring them is a cheap, useful way to give something back, and the projects don’t pay for it any more than you do.

It isn’t a side experiment, either. The mirror is on the official download lists of AlmaLinux, Arch Linux, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Qubes OS, OpenBSD and others, and several of them, Arch and Ubuntu included, check listed mirrors automatically. That keeps us honest about sync times.

The team that runs the mirror also runs our dedicated servers, unmetered servers and Chicago colocation. If you like how the mirror is run, that’s the same crew.

Is the mirror free to use?

Yes. Anyone can download from mirrors.gigenet.com without an account. GigeNET donates the hardware and bandwidth, and there’s nothing to sign up for.

How current is each project?

Each project’s last sync time is on the index page. On 2026-09-28, 18 projects had synced within the previous two days, while FreeBSD, openSUSE and Ceph were behind. If a folder looks old, use the project’s own download site and let us know at [email protected].

Can I use it with apt, dnf or pacman?

Yes, for the distributions it carries. Replace the hostname and base path in your repo config with the matching folder, for example https://mirrors.gigenet.com/ubuntu/ for Ubuntu packages. Your package manager still verifies signatures, so nothing about your trust chain changes.

Can GigeNET mirror my open-source project?

Possibly. Email [email protected] or use the quote form with the project name, tree size, upstream sync source and update frequency. We’ll check it against the space and sync load we already carry and reply either way.
