Windows VPS plans

These are our cloud packages, minus the 1 GB Starter. Windows Server will boot on less, but it won't be pleasant to use, so we start Windows at 4 GB. Choose Windows Server in the operating system step. The license is added on top of the plan price shown here.

What people run on a Windows VPS

If your software runs on Linux, run it on Linux and skip the license. A Windows VPS earns its keep when the software only ships for Windows.

IIS and .NET Framework sites

Classic ASP.NET and .NET Framework apps need Windows and IIS. Modern .NET runs on Linux too, so check before you pay for the license.

Windows-only business software

Accounting packages, line-of-business apps and anything that only ships a Windows installer. Your team reaches it over Remote Desktop from any device.

Trading platforms

MT4, MT5, NinjaTrader and their plug-ins run 24/7 on a VPS while your laptop sleeps. For the lowest latency to CME, see our forex VPS in Chicago.

A remote desktop for a small team

Two people can share a VPS for admin work out of the box. For more users you need RDS licensing, which our RDP server plans include.

Dev, test and build machines

Spin up a Windows box for a test run, pay by the hour, and delete it when you're done.

Windows VPS or Windows dedicated server?

A VPS is the cheaper, faster way in. A dedicated server wins once the box is busy all day or the database is the business.

Start on a VPS if you are not sure. Moving to a Windows dedicated server later is a normal path, and our engineers can help with the move.

Not sure which plan fits?

Tell us the software, how many people will log in and how big the data is. We'll pick a plan, or tell you if Linux or a dedicated server would serve you better.

How much does a Windows VPS cost?

Our Windows-ready plans run from $35 to $120 a month, or from $0.0521 an hour, plus the Windows Server license you choose in the operating system step. The license isn’t part of the plan price.

Where are your Windows VPS servers?

In all three of our data centers: Chicago (Central), Ashburn (East) and Los Angeles (West). Pick the one closest to your users or to the systems your server talks to. Our data center locations page has the details on each site.

How much RAM does a Windows VPS need?

Microsoft lists 2 GB as the minimum for Windows Server with the desktop experience. We start Windows plans at 4 GB, because updates, a browser and one real app will use more than 2 GB. Pick 8 GB or more for SQL Server or several RDP users.

Do I get Administrator access and RDP?

Yes. You get the Administrator account and connect with Remote Desktop. Windows Server allows two admin sessions at once without extra licensing. More concurrent users need RDS CALs; our remote desktop plans include them.

How does hourly billing work?

Each plan has an hourly rate as well as a monthly price, both shown above. Hourly suits test machines and short projects. For a server that runs all month, compare the monthly price.

Can I switch between Windows and Linux?

Yes. You can change the operating system from the client portal without opening a ticket. Reinstalling wipes the disk, so back up first.

Can I move up to a dedicated server later?

Yes. When the VPS runs out of headroom, a Windows dedicated server starts at $126 a month plus $50 for Windows Server Standard. Tell us on the quote form and we’ll plan the move with you.
