In-stock builds are online the same day or the next, and custom builds take a week or less. Every server includes 4 Gbps of DDoS protection, with 6, 8 or 10 Gbps available on the order form. The 10 Gbps packages are Chicago only; for a gigabit in Ashburn, Chicago or Los Angeles, see our unmetered dedicated servers.

Sizing

When 10 Gbps is worth it

A metered plan sells you terabytes. An unmetered port sells you the pipe and lets you fill it. Here’s what each one can move in a 30-day month:

PlanMost it can move in 30 daysAverage rate
30 TB transfer (standard builds)30 TB~93 Mbps
1 Gbps unmetered ($159 Special)~324 TBUp to 1,000 Mbps
10 Gbps unmetered (from $499)~3.2 PB each wayUp to 10,000 Mbps

For streaming, size the port by bitrate times concurrent viewers. A 6 Mbps stream to 160 viewers is 960 Mbps, which fills a gigabit. A 10 Gbps port carries about ten times that, so roughly 1,600 viewers at the same bitrate.

Most workloads never hold 10 Gbps for a whole month. What it buys is headroom, so a launch day, a patch release or a viral clip doesn’t hit a wall. If your graphs sit under 600 or 700 Mbps at peak, start on 1 Gbps and move up when they don’t. More in 10 Gbps unmetered servers: what you are actually buying.

What people run on a 10 Gbps server

Workloads where a per-terabyte bill grows every time the audience does.

Streaming origins

Origin, restream and delivery boxes push steady outbound traffic for hours, the pattern a metered plan charges most for.

Download mirrors and CDN nodes

ISOs, game patches and software updates go out in bursts that can swamp a transfer quota in one release week.

Game platforms

Busy communities with voice, mods and map downloads add up, and a big port keeps patch days smooth.

Backup and replication targets

Nightly offsite copies and database replicas move a lot of data on a schedule. The backup window becomes the only limit.

VPN, proxy and relay nodes

Every byte a user sends goes in and out again, so relay fleets are bandwidth-heavy by design.

Ad tech and real-time APIs

Bid requests, tracking pixels and API gateways are small packets at huge volume, which makes metered costs hard to predict.

Before you buy

What unmetered means here, and what it doesn't

No cap, no overage, no throttling. We don’t meter the port in either direction, and the 10 Gbps ports are full duplex, so you can push 10 Gbps out while you pull 10 Gbps in.

Port size, not a committed rate. At any host selling 1 and 10 Gbps ports, switch uplinks are shared, ours included. We watch each rack’s uplink load and add capacity, or stop selling into that rack, before it gets tight. If you need a committed rate, say so on the quote form and we’ll tell you plainly what we can commit to.

Test it first. Run ping, traceroute or MTR from our looking glass at lg.gigenet.com, or pull the 1 GB test file from speedtest.chi.gigenet.com. One stream won’t fill a 10 Gbps port, so run several at once.

How much is a 10Gbps dedicated server?

From $499 a month in Chicago for dual Xeon E5-2670 v2, 64 GB of RAM and 2 × 1 TB SSD. The 128 GB build is $599, and $799 with 8 usable IPs instead of 4.

Is the 10 Gbps port really unmetered?

Yes. There’s no monthly data cap, no overage charge and no throttling, inbound or outbound. The practical limit is the port itself.

Is 10 Gbps a guaranteed rate?

It’s the port size, not a committed rate. We monitor rack uplinks and add capacity before they get tight. If you need a committed rate, ask on the quote form and we’ll tell you what we can commit to.

Where are 10 Gbps servers available?

Chicago only. A 1 Gbps unmetered port is available in Ashburn, Chicago and Los Angeles on the $159 Xeon D-1541 Special.

Is DDoS protection included?

Yes. Every dedicated server includes 4 Gbps of DDoS protection. You can raise it to 6 Gbps for $155 a month, 8 Gbps for $330 or 10 Gbps for $525.

How fast can I get one?

In-stock builds are online the same day or the next. Custom builds take a week or less.

Tell us what you push, and we'll size the port

Send your peak and average traffic, or your bitrate and concurrent viewers. We'll tell you whether 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps fits and send the build.
