Load Balanced Clusters

Standard Cluster Components

1

Firewall + IDS/IPS

Generally the first layer in a load-balanced cluster, the firewall controls all traffic in & out of your servers. It locks down exploitable ports and prevents malicious traffic from accessing vital resources. Gigenet utilizes Cisco Pix hardware firewalls to protect your cluster.

3

Web Servers

Your web servers will run your preferred web server application, generally Apache on Linux or IIS on Windows. Gigenet also offers a specialized light-weight web server called Litespeed. Web servers handle the majority of your HTTP traffic and will serve static web content & images.

4

Application Services

Many websites today run complex, resource-hogging applications. Think SaaS, social networks, portals, corporate intranets, client extranets. Your application servers will handle the brute of processing for your web applications.

5

Database Servers

Your databases contain critical information that is queried hundreds or even thousands of times per second. This creates a high load on your hard drives. In addition, this data is the core of your business. These servers need to be powerful & redundant.

6

Backup

One of the most crucial and often overlooked components to a cluster - a reliable backup solution. Using R1Soft's Continuous Data Protection, you can schedule short-interval bare metal backups to a secure repository on Gigenet's network. Select file-system or complete drive restores can be performed quickly through an intuitive web interface.

7

VPN

Each of your servers will communicate with eachother on a high-speed 1000 Mb/s internal private network. Gigenet's private network is fully routed, and each customer is allocated a private VLAN. Using LDAP and Array Network's SPX series VPN appliances, you can turn off public access to your back-end servers and ensure the highest security, allowing access only to users you identify through our private network.
